Dr Jennifer Harvey is committed to ensuring her patients are well informed, involved and empowered when making decisions about their treatment and quality of life. She also has a strong interest in the role exercise plays in a cancer patient’s recovery and wellbeing.
Dr Jennifer Harvey is an experienced radiation oncologist at Icon Cancer Centre Greenslopes, bringing over 20 years’ experience in the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer and upper and lower gastrointestinal cancers. She is well known in Australia for her research in these areas. Dr Harvey obtained a Bachelor of Science in Medical Biochemistry in South Africa and worked in a research laboratory before entering medical school. In 1987 she graduated from the University of Queensland with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS). Dr Harvey commenced specialist training in Brisbane and became a Fellow of the Royal Australasian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (RANZCR) in 1995.
Dr Harvey commenced practice in 1996 with Queensland Health and is also based Princess Alexandra and Mater Hospitals, where she works as a senior staff specialist. She is part of the teaching team of medical students and registrars and has been a senior lecturer at the University of Queensland since 1997. Dr Harvey attends regular multidisciplinary meetings, liaising with pathologists, radiologists, surgeons and medical oncologists to optimise and individualise patient management.
Dr Harvey is dedicated to clinical research and is on the trial management committees of a number of international and national research trials. Patients are given the opportunity to participate in available clinical trials. Dr Harvey is committed to ongoing personal development and education. She has participated in workshops on survivorship, breast cancer and upper and lower gastrointestinal cancer treatment. She regularly attends conferences in her areas of interest in Australia and internationally.
