Dr Eric Khoo is a Chinese-speaking radiation oncologist who speaks fluent English, Mandarin, Cantonese and some Malay. He prides himself on engaging patients in open and clear conversations and addressing their queries, while ensuring his clinical practice is built on evidence-based cancer care through continual medical education and participation in cancer research.
Dr Eric Khoo is a radiation oncologist at Icon Cancer Centre Gold Coast Private and Icon Cancer Centre Gold Coast University Hospital. He attended the University of Otago in New Zealand where he obtained a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) in 1999. In 2007, Dr Khoo became a fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists. He then worked at Icon Cancer Centre Toowoomba (formerley Radiation Oncology Centre) from 2008 to 2017, before joining the Chris O’Brien Lifehouse in Sydney as a senior specialist, and the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and Concord Repatriation General Hospital as an honorary VMO.
Over the years, Dr Khoo has proudly been an ethnic committee member for the Darling Down region, local principal investigator for multiple randomised trials, Medical Head for Icon Cancer Centre Toowoomba from 2012 to 2017 and Director of Training for two accredited trainee registrars, as well as a supervisor of third year medical students from Griffith University for their rural term. In 2018, Dr Khoo was awarded for excellence in network education by the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists – Queensland Network. His commitment to cancer research is reflected in his role as a reviewer for the Journal of Medical Imaging and Radiation Oncology, Director for the Australia and New Zealand Head and Neck Cancer Society (ANZHNCS) and local principal investigator for two active high accrual randomised trials. In 2021 Dr Khoo was an invited speaker at the Australasian Skin Cancer Congress on the Gold Coast.
Dr Khoo enjoys a mixture of clinical work, participating in technological advancement and attending multidisciplinary meetings with his colleagues and medical community. He has a special interest in skin cancer, head and neck cancer, lung cancer, prostate cancer, colorectal cancers, and the emerging role of stereotactic radiation therapy for treatment of solid malignancy. As a multilingual radiation oncologist, Dr Khoo can speak to patients about cancer treatment in their own language, and can converse in English, Mandarin, Cantonese and some Malay.
In his free time, Dr Khoo enjoys spending time with his young children, biking and enjoying the outdoor environment of the Gold Coast.
